Aaron Finch helps Surrey cruise in a must-win encounter

Surrey vs Hampshire, South Group

Needing to win their last two games after back-to-back losses, Surrey started on the right note, beating Hampshire by 7 wickets at The Oval. Hampshire only managed 133 for 7 after opting to bat, thanks to the four wickets between Jade Dernbach and Morne Morkel. Sam Northeast’s 37 was the highest score.

In response, Aaron Finch’s unbeaten 67 off 57 balls twinned with Nic Maddinson’s 41 to look past the loss of early wickets — Jason Roy and Will Jacks inside the powerplay — and help Surrey cruise to the target in 17.3 overs.

Brief Scores: Hampshire 133/7 in 20 overs (Sam Northeast 37; Jade Dernbach 2-19) lost to Surrey 136/3 in 17.3 overs (Aaron Finch 67*; Mujeeb Ur Rahman 2-31) by 7 wickets.

Warwickshire vs Lancashire, North Group

Oliver Hannon-Dalby’s four-wicket haul shot Lancashire out for 102 in 19 overs, after the visitors opted to bat. Aaron Thomason and Grant Elliott chipped in with two wickets apiece, reducing Lancashire to 59 for 6 inside ten overs. Danny Lamb’s 24 lower down the order led an insufficient, lone rearguard.

Chasing, openers Ian Bell and Ed Pollock hit thirty-somethings to lead a solid, spaced-out 68-run stand that ticked off the lion’s share of the target.

Brief Scores: Lancashire 102 in 19 overs (Danny Lamb 24; Oliver Hannon-Dalby 4-20) lost to Warwickshire 105/3 in 14.1 overs (Ed Pollock 36; Matthew Parkinson 2-16) by 7 wickets.
