Browns rookie receiver Antonio Callaway is expected to play against the Giants in Thursday’s preseason game, according to Cleveland.com.
The news comes after it was reported Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. The stop was further complicated when officers discovered part of a gun and bullets in the car.
Callaway, 21, wasn’t arrested and was allowed to travel with the team to New York.
Callaway’s court date was rescheduled from Thursday morning to Aug. 23, which will be the Browns’ third preseason game.
According to coach Hue Jackson, he will determine if disciplinary action is needed when he has all the facts surrounding the situation. Callaway reportedly told the team he had his car shipped up from Florida and didn’t know there was a small amount of marijuana under the seat.
Callaway has had his fair share of off-field problems. He was cited for marijuana possession earlier this year and missed the 2017 season at Florida after allegations of credit card fraud. He also was suspended in 2016 amid sexual battery allegations and was later found not responsible of sexually assaulting a female student in December 2015.
His stock dropped after he failed a drug test at the NFL combine, though Cleveland still took him in the fourth round of April’s draft.
