Pooja Vastrakar, the India pacer, has been ruled out of the ICC World T20 with an injury that she suffered during a pre-tournament practice game. Devika Vaidya has been named as her replacement after the event technical committee’s approval.
Vastrakar was helped off the field during the practice game on November 4 and has subsequently been a part of the squad without playing a game. The injury comes as a blow to Vastrakar, India’s most-capped T20I pacer in the squad, who was targeting a return to the international cricket after an ankle injury had forced her out of the Women’s Challenger trophy and the series against Sri Lanka.
India will take on Australia in their next group game on Saturday to decide who amongst them will finish at the top of Group B. Allrounder Vaidya, who has played one T20I previously, is expected to join the squad only after that game and before India play their semifinal game on November 22.
