The third edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will kick off with the match between Dindigul Dragons and Ruby Trichy Warriors at the ICL ground in Tirunelveli on July 11, it was announced on Friday (June 15). The tournament will feature eight teams and there will be 32 matches spread across three venues – ICL ground, NPR College Ground in Dindigul and the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. The final will be played at Chepauk on August 12.
Defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies will start their campaign against Trichy Warriors at the Chepauk on July 14. In all, 14 matches each will be played in Tirunelveli and Dindigul and four matches in Chennai, including the final.
“It was decided to have a majority of the matches in Tirunelveli and Dindigul so as to provide more exposure to the next generation of players from the districts to high-quality cricket live,” TNCA joint secretary RI Palani said.
The winners of TNPL 3 will take home a prize money of INR 1 crore while the runners-up will bag INR 60 lakh and the third and fourth-placed teams will gain by INR 40 lakh each. The India Cements Limited will continue their association with TNPL as title sponsors.
Two matches during the league phase, starting at 3.15 pm and 7.15 pm, will be held on Sunday while only one match is scheduled every day from 7.15 pm.
