Left-arm spinner Alex Hartley was recalled to the England ODI squad as the hosts confirmed a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand.
The 24-year-old bagged only one wicket in the three-match ODI series against India in April and consequently found herself out of the squad for the home series against South Africa. However, her consistent performance for Lancashire in the ongoing domestic one-day tournament put her back in the reckoning for a recall.
Medium pacer Katie George, who made her T20I debut in the tri-series in India in March, has also earned a call-up to the 50-overs side. However, Danielle Hazell continues on the sidelines after being overlooked for the second successive ODI series this home summer.
“I’ve been pleased with how we’ve played this summer,” England head coach Mark Robinson said. “We’ve got a bit of competition for places, which is healthy, and as such we’ve got a group of players pushing each other to improve all the time.
“It’s good to have Alex Hartley back with the group and Katie George has had a promising start to her career at this level and we look forward to taking on New Zealand,” he added.
The three-match series, starting Saturday (July 7), will make up the third round of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship for both the sides. The matches are scheduled to be played in Leeds, Leicester and Derby.
New Zealand lead the Championship table after the first-two rounds, with five wins and 10 points, owing to a marginally better NRR than Australia who also have 10 points. World Champions England are placed fourth, having won three and lost as many games thus far.
England squad: Heather Knight (c), Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Georgia Elwiss, Katie George, Jenny Gunn, Alex Hartley, Amy Jones, Laura Marsh, Natalie Sciver, Sarah Taylor (wk), Anya Shrubsole, Lauren Winfield and Danielle Wyatt.
