Galle completed the double in Sri Lanka’s Inter-Provincial tournament when they won the one-day title with a 75-run win over Colombo at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Galle had earlier won the first class title finishing ahead of Dambulla.
The win brought to an end former Test captain Hashan Tillakaratne’s tenure as coach of the Provincial team. He moves on to take up as Head Coach of Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team ahead of India Under-19s tour of the island next month.
The one-day final had to be postponed twice due to inclement weather. Several stars were unavailable due to international commitments in West Indies.
Galle’s total of 320 for seven in 50 overs was propelled by captain Upul Tharanga’s century. Tharanga’s 124 came off 122 deliveries with 13 fours and three sixes.
He added 50 runs for the first wicket with Ramith Rambukwella (22) and shared a 125-run stand for the second wicket with wicketkeeper Sadeera Samarawickrama (62). Lakshan Sandakan picked up four wickets.
In reply, Colombo were bowled out for 245 in 44.2 overs. Shehan Jayasuriya posted the only half-century in the innings. He was named Player of the Series. Tharanga was named Man of the Match.
