Somerset have reached an agreement with Windies fast bowler Jerome Taylor and have secured his services for the remainder of the T20 Blast competition. The 34-year-old quick will be available for the team’s nine remaining games starting with the July 27 fixture against Surrey, as well as the knockout phases if the team qualify.
“We are delighted to have secured such a high-quality player for the business end of the Vitality Blast,” Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry said. “He brings with him a wealth of international T20 experience and is a player who can really impact games with the ball, both with the new ball and especially at the end of an innings.”
Taylor, a member of the Windies’ World T20-winning squad of 2016, has a wealth of experience playing in England where he has enjoyed County stints with Sussex and Leicestershire. In 89 T20 matches so far, he has 104 wickets at an economy rate of 8.12 and will significantly bolster the team’s bowling attack with his ability to operate both in the powerplay and in the death overs. “I’m really excited to be joining Somerset,” Taylor said. “It’s a real honour to join such a prestigious club and I hope that I can help bring my experience to what looks like a really exciting group of young players.”
Somerset are currently placed sixth in the South Division of the T20 Blast, with two wins and two defeats from their four games so far.
