Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim was the driver in a fatal vehicle-pedestrian accident late Wednesday on an Interstate highway, Syracuse.com reported, citing an unidentified source.
Boeheim, 74, was driving around midnight ET when he struck and killed a man walking outside a vehicle on Interstate 690.
The man — described as in his 30s and one of four people in a vehicle that had crashed — was struck by Boeheim after exiting the crashed vehicle.
Boeheim had no alcohol in his system and is cooperating with the investigation, the source told Syracuse.com. Boeheim’s Syracuse team had defeated Louisville, 69-49, earlier Wednesday.
Syracuse police Chief Kenton Buckner said mid-morning Thursday that a news release would be coming shortly.
