Worcestershire vs Derbyshire
Joe Clarke scored a quickfire 76 off just 53 balls to help Worcestershire bag a comfortable 16-run win on Thursday (August 9) and go to the top of the points table in the North Group. Although 137 for 8 wasn’t a total to boast of, Derbyshire helped their opponents by bungling their chase with four of their six top-order batsmen getting dismissed for single-digit scores. Interestingly though, six Worcestershire batsmen were out for single digits in the first innings, yet they ended up on the winning side with Clarke’s knock at the top order proving to be hefty enough.
Chasing 138 to win, Derbyshire lost three wickets inside four overs of play but recovered well through a 53-run partnership for the fifth wicket between opener Billy Godleman and skipper Gary Wilson. However, with the duo falling inside two overs of each other, Derbyshire lost track yet again, and this time there was no coming back. Eventually, Derbyshire’s chase stopped at 121 for 7, falling short by 16 runs.
Brief Scores: Worcestershire 137/8 in 20 overs (Joe Clarke 76; Hardus Viljoen 3-25) beat Derbyshire 121/7 in 20 overs (Billy Godleman 38; Patrick Brown 2-21) by 16 runs.
