Leganes have confirmed the appointment of former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino on a one-year deal.

Pellegrino, 46, was sacked by Southampton in March 2018 after a run of one win in 17 games and replaced by Mark Hughes who led the club to Premier League safety.

The Argentine only won five league matches in his nine-month spell in charge of the Saints.

He signed a one-year contract at Leganes, who finished in 17th place in La Liga last season and reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Pellegrino has previously managed Deportivo Alaves and Valencia in Spain’s top flight.

Leganes’ previous manager Asier Garitano left the club to take over at Real Sociedad next season.
