Washington has reportedly had interest in Realmuto since this offseason when the Marlins catcher asked to be traded away after Miami dealt its entire outfield in an effort to drop its payroll.
The asking price, though, has long been considered to be very high for the All-Star and many thought Washington would be unwilling to part with Robles to get him. However, with the emergence of Juan Soto, it would appear the Nationals may be thinking Robles is more tradable.
According to Sirius XM though, the hold up with a trade would be who the Nationals are willing to add to the deal. The report states that the Marlins may ask for Carter Kieboom who is a top 50 prospect (No. 35 according to MLB Pipeline) in baseball just like Robles (No. 5 overall).
Washington reportedly may not be willing to part with both of them, however, they may be open to dealing two prospects in addition to Robles. It just remains to be seen who those prospects would be.
The Marlins have been saying for a while they do not want to deal Realmuto who is both an All-Star and under team control until 2021. However, a deal including Robles may be too good to pass up as he has long been viewed as one of the best prospects in MLB.
It should be noted the Nationals have not been shy about dealing top prospects in recent years. Washington dealt Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez (both of which were top 100 prospects) to get Adam Eaton in 2016.
