NHL playoffs 2018: Capitals' Devante Smith-Pelly takes 90-mph shot to head; returns in minutes

Capitals winger Devante Smith-Pelly had to leave in the first period of Game 7 after he took a shot to the head from Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh in the first period.

On the play, Smith-Pelly laid out to get in the way of a shooting lane and a slap shot from McDonagh skimmed his back and went straight into his skull.

The Capitals winger stayed down on the ice for a moment before he got up and headed to the locker room.

He missed all of six minutes and was back on the ice quickly.

This is Game 7.

Smith-Pelly has been a key member of the rotation for the Capitals so far this postseason scoring four goals and adding an assist.

The Capitals went into the locker room after the first period up 1-0.
