Capitals winger Devante Smith-Pelly had to leave in the first period of Game 7 after he took a shot to the head from Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh in the first period.
On the play, Smith-Pelly laid out to get in the way of a shooting lane and a slap shot from McDonagh skimmed his back and went straight into his skull.
The Capitals winger stayed down on the ice for a moment before he got up and headed to the locker room.
