Kusal Perera, the Sri Lanka batsman, had to be stretchered off the field on the third day of the final Test in Barbados after he crashed into the advertisement boards while attempting a catch of Shannon Gabriel at long on. Perera has since been at a nearby hospital and is undergoing scans while being under observation to ascertain the extent of the injury
On an eventful Monday (June 25), with the Windies tottering on 88 for 9, Gabriel tried to heave Dilruwan Perera over the fence moments before the dinner break but failed to make proper contact. With the ball staying up in the air for fairly long, Perera went for the catch, only to go over the ropes with the momentum of the ball. Upon making a nasty contact with the boards beyond the boundary ropes, he tripped over it to lay motionless for a considerable amount of time.
The medical staff was quick to attend to the 27-year-old who clutched at his chest and laid face down next to the fence before being eventually put on a stretcher and carried off in an ambulance to a nearby hospital. The umpires called for a slightly early dinner break in the wake of the situation.
The news about Kusal is he in hospital under medical observation and in the process of going through some scans.
