Scotland will be looking to beat England for the first time when they face Eoin Morgan’s men in a one-day international in Edinburgh on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Cricket.
Kyle Coetzer’s men have played England in four previous ODIs, losing the last three after the first, in 2008, fell victim to the weather.
Moeen Ali starred for Morgan’s side in their previous fixture against Scotland, with his 128 from the top of the order helping tee up a thumping 119-run win during the group stage of the 2015 World Cup.
Scotland will be absent from the 2019 World Cup in England after finishing outside the top two spots in the qualifying competition earlier this year, with a rain-affected, five-run defeat to Windies in the Super Sixes ending their hopes of appearing in the tournament proper for a fourth time.
However, Kyle Coetzer’s men defeated Afghanistan earlier in the competition and also recorded their first win over a Test-playing nation when they beat Zimbabwe in Edinburgh a year ago, a game in which skipper Coetzer struck a century.
“I think we’ve put our name a bit more on the map and been recognised across world cricket a bit more, which is only ever going to be a good thing,” said Scotland seamer Chris Sole, whose brother Tom will miss the match with a broken ankle. Hear more from the Soles – and their father David – here!
Scotland skipper Coetzer will make his 50th ODI appearance on Sunday and if he scores 89 or more, he will become the first Scotsman to 2,000 one-day international runs.
England will be without the rested Jos Buttler and the injured Ben Stokes (hamstring) and Chris Woakes (quad) for the clash at The Grange.
Skipper Morgan and all-rounders Ali and David Willey will head into the contest in form, having smashed centuries in the Royal London One-Day cup within the last week for Middlesex, Worcestershire and Yorkshire respectively.
